Patent preparation and prosecution in electrical, computer and mechanical arts.
Ms. Smart focuses her practice in the areas of Intellectual Property, Patent, Copyright, and Trademark law. Ms. Smart has experience in preparing and prosecuting patent applications both in the United States and abroad with the assistance of foreign associates. Ms. Smart’s patent preparation and prosecution expertise encompasses the mechanical, computer, and electrical arts including, but not limited to, applications dealing with sensor technology, transistors, semiconductors, software, medical devices, automotive, manufacturing equipment, and electrical technologies.
Ms. Smart interned at the United States Patent and Trademark Office, where she examined patent applications and analyzed Patent Trial and Appeal Board (PTAB) decisions. Additionally Ms. Smart has in-house experience regarding patent preparation and prosecution in the electrical, mechanical, and chemical arts.
Before attending law school, Ms. Smart acquired research experience working for the United States Army Medical Research Institute for Infectious Diseases, where she completed her thesis work and succeeded in stabilizing a monomeric anthrax vaccine candidate. After law school, she spent two and a half years at an Ohio IP boutique firm before joining Tarolli, Sundheim, Covell & Tummino, LLP.
